Lead Agent Engineer

About the role

You will architect and deliver AI-enabled applications using LangChain and LLMs to produce production-ready outcomes for clients. You will lead cross-functional engineering teams through end-to-end delivery, guiding backend services and modern web UIs with decisive technical leadership. You will practice Test-Driven Development and continuous refactoring to ensure all code remains reliable, maintainable, and understandable for the long term. You will pair program daily with teammates and clients to share knowledge, elevate code quality, and foster collaborative growth. You will coach developers through mentoring and modeling, cultivating a healthy and high-performing engineering culture within the team. You will influence technical direction across client organizations and Focused internal practices, sharing lessons and raising the collective bar for engineering excellence. You will stay curious by experimenting with new patterns in the GenAI space, documenting what works and what does not, and helping evolve the methodology for building AI-powered software. You will deeply listen first to collaborate effectively, acting as a lifelong learner in the domain of our clients to ensure solutions meet their true needs.

What you'll do

Build AI-enabled applications leveraging LangChain and LLMs to deliver meaningful, production-ready outcomes for clients.

Demonstrate deep expertise in LangChain, LangGraph and LangSmith to design robust and scalable agentic systems.

Lead teams through end-to-end delivery across the stack, from backend services to modern web UIs with architectural ownership.

Pair program daily with teammates and clients to share knowledge, improve code quality, and grow together through collaborative learning.

Practice TDD and continuous refactoring to ensure code is reliable, maintainable, and understandable for future maintenance.

Guide architecture decisions to support scalability, observability, and performance for complex client workloads.

Collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and stakeholders to continuously deliver valuable software that aligns with business goals.

Coach developers on the team through pairing, mentoring, and modeling healthy engineering culture to develop people and products.

Influence technical direction beyond the team, working across client orgs and Focused's internal practices to share lessons and shape approaches.

Stay curious through experimenting with new patterns in the GenAI space, sharing insights, and helping evolve how we build AI-powered software effectively.

Contribute to the engineering community by communicating progress, documenting decisions, and guiding the team toward successful product outcomes.

Apply strong problem-solving skills to navigate ambiguous requirements and translate client needs into technical solutions.

Support the delivery lifecycle by collaborating with sales, design, and product teams to ensure smooth project execution.

Champion best practices in software engineering to maintain high standards of quality, security, and performance across all deliverables.

Requirements

You are a hands-on, full stack engineer with a strong track record of delivering software in collaborative, agile environments.

You have worked with LangChain (or similar agentic frameworks), and understand how to architect AI-native systems responsibly and effectively for real-world constraints.

You have experience leading engineering teams and feel confident mentoring and supporting other developers in their professional growth.

You believe that code quality matters, and that TDD and pairing help build better systems and stronger teams through shared understanding.

You are unintimidated and unintimidating when working with clients, able to build trust and influence without authority.

You listen first and prioritize collaboration to deeply understand problem spaces, objectives, and goals before proposing solutions.
