Engineering Manager, Payments

Fleetio seeks an Engineering Manager to lead the Payments team. This role involves guiding a group responsible for critical financial systems that underpin our customer operations. You will collaborate with product and engineering leaders to ensure the delivery of dependable and well-crafted solutions in a domain demanding precision and foresight.

What you'll do

• Guide a team in developing and maintaining high-quality web application experiences for payments.
• Work with product and engineering leadership to define and execute the roadmap for payment-related features.
• Facilitate technical discussions to balance delivery speed with system reliability and maintainability.
• Mentor and develop engineers through regular feedback and coaching.
• Contribute to ensuring code quality, maintainability, and performance.
• Help the team manage system complexity and identify areas for improvement.
• Communicate project status, risks, and decisions to stakeholders.
• Participate in hiring and onboarding new engineering talent.
• Cultivate a positive and accountable engineering culture.

Requirements

• 2-3 years of experience managing engineering teams or serving as a technical people leader.
• Experience leading teams that build web applications within a SaaS context.
• Background in payments, billing, financial systems, fintech, subscription platforms, or similar high-accountability areas.
• Experience with payment processing or billing platforms like Stripe, Recurly, or Chargify.
• Proven ability to lead teams in delivering on roadmap initiatives and achieving measurable results.
• Strong judgment regarding technical quality, risk assessment, system complexity, and business impact.
• Demonstrated success in attracting, developing, and retaining engineering talent.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience with Ruby on Rails.
• Familiarity with React or similar web application frameworks.
