About the role
Fleetio is seeking a Director to oversee our Engineering Pod focused on enhancing the productivity of our Product and Engineering teams. This position involves leading three specialized Squads: Foundations Engineering, which develops the core frameworks and services; Builder Experience, aimed at transforming our Product Development Lifecycle with a focus on AI-assisted development; and Solutions Engineering, responsible for accelerating key account commitments through partnerships. You will be instrumental in defining strategies and measuring the effectiveness of these initiatives.

What you'll do
- Lead the strategy and outcomes for a diverse portfolio that includes shared frameworks, developer tools, and partner delivery, ensuring high standards for each Squad.
- Enhance the efficiency of Product and Engineering teams by promoting the use of shared frameworks and eliminating redundant efforts.
- Establish the Solutions Engineering Squad to expedite roadmap commitments and manage partnerships, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
- Innovate our Product Development Lifecycle by implementing significant improvements in software delivery processes.
- Maintain a structured intake process to focus the Pod's efforts on its primary mission rather than unassigned tasks.
- Recruit, mentor, and retain engineering managers and senior contributors, overseeing performance and engagement within the Pod.
- Collaborate with the VP of Engineering and CTO on strategic vision, and work with the Platform Engineering Pod and Design System team to ensure alignment.
- Manage the Pod's budget effectively, ensuring accountability for the throughput generated.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years in leadership roles within engineering, such as Director or Senior Engineering Manager, with experience in managing other managers.
- Proven experience scaling engineering teams during significant business growth, specifically from approximately $100M to $300M in revenue.
- Background in leading a platform, foundations, or developer-productivity organization, with measurable impacts on engineering teams.
- Experience working with external partners, including selecting agencies and managing contracts while ensuring quality control.
- Proficiency in using AI development tools and implementing them to enhance software development practices.
- A successful track record in attracting and nurturing engineering talent.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting technical and investment cases to various stakeholders.

Nice to have
- Familiarity with building applications using Ruby on Rails and React.
- Experience in establishing professional services or partner delivery functions within a product organization.
- Understanding of treating internal platforms as products, including metrics for adoption and customer discovery.
- Knowledge of native mobile development, particularly for iOS and Android applications.

- Experience with Ruby on Rails, React, and AI-assisted development tools.
