AI Product Engineer

Fireworks AI is seeking a skilled engineer to contribute to our innovative platform, which facilitates the development and deployment of AI models tailored to specific organizational needs. You will play a crucial role in enhancing our Fireworks Nexus product, which enables teams to significantly reduce AI costs while maintaining high performance. This position offers the chance to work in a collaborative environment where your contributions will have a direct impact on the future of enterprise AI.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Take full ownership of product features across the Nexus platform and Fireworks ecosystem, including the intelligent routing system, FireConnect integrations, cost management tools, and the developer console. You will identify problems, design solutions, implement them, and iterate based on user feedback.
• Develop the routing and migration system that assesses request complexity in real-time, ensuring routine tasks are directed to open models while more complex requests are handled by existing providers, achieving significant cost savings.
• Simplify the adoption process by enhancing FireConnect and our APIs to allow seamless integration of Nexus into existing workflows with minimal setup.
• Work across the entire technology stack, including frontend (React/TypeScript), backend services (Python, Go), APIs, and data layers, to deliver high-quality product features for technical users.
• Adapt to evolving product requirements, including new models, serving methods, and enterprise controls, as well as improving multi-agent tools.
• Collaborate closely with teams in Infrastructure, Applied Research, Growth, Data, and Design to transform platform capabilities into user-friendly products.
• Monitor and analyze the performance of your developments to identify and eliminate friction points for users.

Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a software engineer, with a strong focus on building and delivering user-facing products.
• Proficient in full-stack development, with expertise in frontend (React/TypeScript), backend (Python, Go, or similar), APIs, and database management.
• Demonstrated experience in shipping developer-oriented products, including APIs, dashboards, and developer tools.
• Strong sense of ownership, capable of managing ambiguous challenges and executing solutions independently.
• Excellent product instincts, prioritizing the developer experience in your work.
• Ability to work efficiently and take ownership of projects, delivering results quickly while making practical decisions.

Nice to have

• Experience in developing products that rely on complex infrastructure, such as inference platforms, cloud services, or machine learning tools.
• Familiarity with building for technical users, where the product interface includes both APIs and user interfaces.
• Comfort in a dynamic, founder-led environment where product requirements may shift frequently.
• Daily use of AI tools, with a strong understanding of what constitutes a superior AI developer experience.
