In-House Counsel
About the role
This is a foundational legal role where you will establish and manage all legal matters for a rapidly growing AI infrastructure company. You will be instrumental in shaping our legal framework as we expand, partnering closely with commercial and engineering teams.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Draft and negotiate customer agreements, including Master Service Agreements and Order Forms, ensuring appropriate allocation of risk concerning copyright, data access, and privacy.
- Manage legal aspects of partnership and content licensing agreements, structuring them to mitigate risk effectively.
- Develop deep expertise in the legal considerations surrounding web scraping and public data acquisition, including crawling practices, robots.txt, terms of service, and relevant case law.
- Collaborate with engineering on the technical and compliance aspects of data sourcing and delivery.
- Provide strategic legal counsel to founders and the Head of Finance and Legal on risk management and company structure during growth phases, including Series B funding.
- Create essential legal documentation, such as templates and playbooks, to support rapid team operations.
Requirements
- A minimum of 6 years of legal practice experience, with significant exposure to data/intellectual property law, privacy regulations, and technology transactions.
- Demonstrated ability to structure agreements where risk is appropriately assigned across copyright, data access, and privacy domains.
- Comfort operating independently and making decisive legal judgments.
- Proven skill in translating complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for a fast-paced business environment.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, seeking solutions rather than simply identifying obstacles.
Nice to have
- Extensive familiarity with the legal landscape of web scraping and public data, or a strong aptitude for quickly mastering this area.
- Ease in discussing technical data flows with engineers as well as negotiating contractual terms.

- The salary range provided is for U.S.-based employees in San Francisco, CA, with adjustments made for cost of living in other locations.
