About the role
Field Ai is hiring a Mapping Solution Engineer to manage the deployment and performance of 3D mapping technology in real-world settings. You will bridge the gap between robotics research and field operations by ensuring our autonomous systems function reliably in complex environments.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Build and maintain production software for 3D mapping and data processing pipelines.
- Validate mapping algorithms through hands-on testing with robots and sensors.
- Create internal tools and benchmarking infrastructure to increase system reliability.
- Manage end-to-end delivery of mapping data, including capture, validation, and customer handoff.
- Perform on-site and remote system deployments to support customer pilots and evaluations.
- Use field performance data to inform and drive engineering improvements.
Requirements
- Master degree or higher in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Geomatics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2+ years of experience in robotics software, 3D mapping, systems integration, or field deployment.
- Proficiency in C++ and Python for production environments.
- Knowledge of 3D geometry, point cloud processing, and algorithms like ICP and NDT.
- Experience with PCL, Open3D, and LiDAR data formats such as PCD, PLY, E57, or LAS.
- Familiarity with ROS, Git, and Linux/Ubuntu.
- Ability to troubleshoot software, hardware, and networking issues.
- Willingness to travel for on-site customer work.
Nice to have
- Background in geospatial data, georeferencing, coordinate systems, or survey calibration.
- Experience with CloudCompare, Leica Cyclone, Faro Scene, or Trimble RealWorks.
- History of deploying mission-critical autonomous systems.
- Experience with Jira, Wrike, or Confluence.
- Previous work in high-growth startups or field robotics.
