About the role

exa is building a search engine for the AI era, and we need a leader to establish our developer relations function. This role involves making exa the preferred search layer for developers by fostering community, driving integrations, and educating users. You will build and lead a team while remaining hands-on in technical demonstrations and content creation.

What you'll do

• Define exa's presence in the developer community through events, hackathons, and open-source contributions.
• Establish technical partnerships to integrate exa into popular developer tools and frameworks.
• Create programs that empower users to become advocates for exa.
• Develop and deliver technical talks, workshops, and reference applications.
• Recruit, mentor, and manage a growing DevRel team.
• Serve as a conduit for developer feedback to product and engineering teams.

Requirements

• 6+ years in developer relations, developer marketing, or engineering with a public profile, including experience with API or developer platform companies.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with developers through talks, workshops, streams, or writing.
• Technical understanding of the AI stack, including LLMs, agents, and retrieval systems.
• Demonstrated success in building developer communities from the ground up.
• Experience leading ecosystem or integration partnerships from conception to maintained code.
• Background in hiring or mentoring DevRel professionals.
• Strong judgment in measuring the impact and value of developer relations efforts.

Nice to have

• Experience as an open-source maintainer or significant contributor.
• Prior work at a company that grew primarily through developer adoption.
• Existing network within the AI and agent developer communities.
• Experience organizing large-scale hackathons or developer conferences.
• Professional background as a software engineer before transitioning to DevRel.
