About the role
Exa is seeking a Developer Advocate to build and demonstrate practical applications of our search API for AI. This role combines engineering expertise with public communication, focusing on creating resources that inspire and enable other developers. You will showcase the capabilities of Exa's technology through various channels.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain a library of functional code examples, reference agents, and integration demonstrations tailored for specific developer use cases.
- Deliver technical presentations, workshops, and streams at conferences, meetups, and hackathons, both in-person and virtually.
- Engage with developer communities by answering questions, providing support, and offering helpful insights in public forums.
- Create and sustain integrations with popular developer frameworks and tools, collaborating with the Head of DevRel.
- Provide detailed feedback to the Product and Engineering teams regarding developer challenges and API friction points.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience as a software engineer, developer advocate, or a combination of both, with demonstrable code.
- Proven experience building with large language models (LLMs), AI agents, and retrieval systems, with the ability to discuss successes and failures.
- A portfolio of public work, such as code repositories, talks, streams, tutorials, or personal projects.
- Strong live presentation skills, capable of teaching technical subjects effectively to an audience.
- A genuine desire to assist other developers, including providing support outside of standard hours.
- Comfortable with public work and open to technical feedback without defensiveness.
- Daily use of AI tools in your work and clear opinions on their limitations.
Nice to have
- Recognizable open-source contributions.
- Prior experience at an API-first or developer tools company.
- An existing following or reputation within the AI developer community.
- Experience leading workshops or mentoring at hackathons.
- Skills beyond coding, such as video production, technical writing, or design, to enhance demos.
