About the role
This position focuses on ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of semi-monthly payroll processing. You will be responsible for managing employee data, calculating payroll, and maintaining compliance with all tax regulations across various jurisdictions. Adaptability is key as you navigate Equip's evolving business structure while adhering to employment and tax requirements.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Oversee and verify payroll system entries for all transactions, including salaries, benefits, deductions, and timekeeping, to ensure accurate and on-time processing.
- Calculate and review payroll figures, including taxable wages and net pay.
- Process payroll adjustments for new hires, terminations, and changes in compensation or status.
- Handle incoming tax notices from agencies and resolve any outstanding inquiries.
- Respond to and assist employees with questions regarding their paychecks or other compensation-related matters.
- Complete all required state tax filings and reporting for multiple entities.
- Generate payroll analysis reports for the People and Finance departments, and for company leadership.
- Conduct research and provide timely responses to inquiries from employees and management.
- Collaborate effectively with various departments across the organization.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Human Resources, or equivalent professional experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience managing payroll operations for businesses with multiple states and entities.
- Comprehensive understanding of the full payroll cycle, from gross to net calculations, including overtime, bonuses, taxable wages, leave pay, garnishments, benefits, and retirement contributions.
- Proven experience with tax reconciliation and reporting.
- Solid knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, including unemployment and PFML taxes, as well as FLSA and wage and hour compliance.
- Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires adaptability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Suite.
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a proactive, results-oriented approach.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing tasks effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to providing excellent internal and external customer service.
Nice to have
- FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification.
- Experience with Rippling or similar modern automated HRIS platforms.
