Endurance is building the world's first modular subsea geothermal power plants, converting vast thermal resources under the ocean into gigawatts of baseload power. The role owns the low-voltage control and instrumentation stack that makes distributed subsea energy generation safe, observable, and reliable. You will translate extreme environment constraints into robust electrical architectures that survive years on the seafloor without manual intervention. This position blends system-level design with deep hardware hands-on, requiring equal parts judgment and meticulous execution. You will directly influence how subsea infrastructure communicates, fails safely, and maintains precision sensing in corrosive high-pressure conditions. The work demands ownership from schematic through field performance, with a bias for practical solutions that balance safety, reliability, and deployment speed. You will partner closely with power, mechanical, and operations teams to ensure electrical systems meet the real-world needs of subsea manufacturing, deployment, and maintenance.

What you'll do
- Architect and design low-voltage control and instrumentation systems from sensor interfaces through communication links and system supervisory logic.
- Select and implement microcontrollers and embedded Linux processors appropriate for subsea control applications under strict reliability and safety requirements.
- Design analog sensor front ends for pressure, temperature, flow, and shaft speed including signal conditioning, filtering, and ADC interfacing with precision and stability.
- Integrate battery management systems and design low-voltage power distribution for control electronics to ensure safe, efficient, and monitored power delivery.
- Architect and implement communication systems including Ethernet, fiber optic, and serial protocols for robust subsea-to-surface data links with deterministic behavior.
- Produce electrical harness drawings and coordinate with manufacturing of cable assemblies, connectors, and harness fabrication for high-reliability subsea interfaces.
- Define and implement fault-tolerant design strategies including redundancy, watchdog supervision, fault detection, and graceful degradation for non-retrievable deployments in remote environments.
- Develop fault trees and failure containment strategies to prevent single-point failures from taking down critical monitoring or control functions across distributed subsea nodes.
- Lead board bring-up, lab validation, and system-level testing including sensor accuracy characterization, communication link validation, and fault injection to prove robustness.
- Drive root cause investigations for sensor dropouts, communication failures, firmware faults, connector failures, and field anomalies using data and first-principles analysis.
- Own the full system lifecycle including fabrication release, vendor and CM coordination, revision control, and production readiness for scalable manufacturing.
- Integrate control hardware cleanly with power systems, firmware, mechanical enclosures, and offshore operations teams to ensure alignment on interfaces and timing.
- Establish electrical design standards, documentation discipline, and reliability practices appropriate for subsea infrastructure that must operate for years without human intervention.
- Validate designs through rigorous testing regimes that simulate pressure cycles, thermal gradients, moisture ingress, and electromagnetic interference found on the ocean floor.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience designing and shipping embedded or mixed-signal hardware in demanding or high-reliability environments with a track record of production success.
- Generalist hardware instincts across microcontrollers, analog signal chains, low-voltage power, and digital communications, enabling you to make balanced tradeoffs in complex systems.
- Demonstrated experience architecting complete embedded systems, not just isolated boards or subcircuits, including integration across sensors, compute, and communications.
- Hands-on experience designing analog sensor front ends including signal conditioning, filtering, and precision measurement to meet stringent accuracy and noise targets.
- Working knowledge of communication protocols and physical layers including Ethernet, fiber optic, RS-485, CAN, and SPI/I2C to design interoperable and robust links.
- Experience with battery management systems or low-voltage DC power distribution for electronics to ensure safe energy delivery and monitoring in subsea applications.
- Ability to produce harness drawings and work directly with contract manufacturers on cable and connector selection, termination methods, and qualification processes.
- Hands-on lab experience bringing up embedded hardware, debugging with oscilloscopes and analyzers, and iterating through revision cycles to resolve elusive defects.
- Experience designing for harsh environments including thermal, mechanical shock, vibration, and corrosion constraints that are inherent to long-duration subsea operation.
- Strong understanding of qualification and test methods for subsea electronics, including environmental testing, HALT, and failure mode analysis.
- Familiarity with safety and reliability standards relevant to marine energy and critical infrastructure is strongly preferred.
- Willingness to work closely with operations and service teams to support diagnostic data, field updates, and rapid troubleshooting during deployments.
- Commitment to rigorous documentation, change control, and design traceability to ensure consistent execution across engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Ability to translate high-level reliability targets into concrete electrical design choices and verification activities that can be validated in testing.
Nice to have
- Experience with subsea power systems, marine electronics, or energy conversion in harsh environments.
- Prior work on fiber optic communication systems and real-time deterministic networking in industrial or marine settings.
- Knowledge of certification processes for marine equipment and familiarity with classification society requirements.

- Background in battery energy storage or power electronics relevant to control and backup power for subsea systems.
