What you'll do
Analyze and resolve complex infrastructure bottlenecks to ensure high availability and performance of core services for a global user base. Design and implement scalable storage solutions that optimize cost-efficiency while meeting stringent data integrity and security requirements. Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into robust technical specifications and system architectures. Develop automation frameworks to streamline deployment processes, reduce manual intervention, and accelerate release cycles across distributed environments. Monitor system health and performance metrics, identifying trends and proactively addressing potential failures before they impact users. Partner with cross-functional teams to drive initiatives that enhance interoperability and adaptability across diverse ecosystems and technology stacks. Lead technical investigations and root cause analyses for critical incidents, documenting findings and contributing to long-term preventative strategies. Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance on best practices, code reviews, and architectural decision-making within the engineering community. Contribute to the evolution of the Dropbox Engineering Career Framework, aligning growth paths with technical excellence and leadership principles. Participate in on-call rotations to ensure rapid response to production issues and continuous improvement of operational runbooks.
Requirements
8+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, software development, or a related technical field with a strong track record of delivering scalable systems. Proficiency in programming languages such as Go, Python, or Java, with demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable, and efficient code. Deep understanding of distributed systems principles, including consensus algorithms, fault tolerance, and data replication strategies. Experience with large-scale storage systems, file systems, or object storage solutions and their associated performance optimization techniques. Strong knowledge of networking protocols, load balancing, and traffic management in cloud and on-premises environments. Solid grasp of database technologies, both relational and NoSQL, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization. Experience with containerization and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes, along with infrastructure-as-code practices. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex issues in production environments under tight deadlines.
