About the role
You will oversee safety systems, incident management, and policy governance for the autonomous products developed by DoorDash Labs. This senior position requires building a high-performing team of safety specialists while partnering with engineering and product leaders to integrate safety protocols into every stage of the development lifecycle.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of safety operations specialists across both remote and on-site environments.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures to ensure compliance across all Labs initiatives.
- Define safety metrics and KPIs, providing regular risk assessments and data-driven updates to senior leadership.
- Direct the triage and resolution of critical incidents, including conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective measures.
- Collaborate with legal, product, and engineering departments to embed safety standards into product design and field operations.
- Act as the primary safety representative when engaging with external partners, customers, and regulatory bodies.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in safety, operations, or related fields, with a preference for backgrounds in robotics, aerospace, defense, or autonomy.
- 2+ years of management experience focused on talent development and functional leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to scale operational or safety systems within regulated or safety-critical industries.
- Executive-level communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and simplify complex risk data.
- Analytical mindset capable of navigating ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
- Availability for an on-call rotation, including urgent response requirements during nights and weekends.
Nice to have
- Expertise in safety management systems (SMS) or ISO 45001 frameworks.
- Experience creating and deploying comprehensive training materials and instructional programs.
- Background in large-scale fleet operations or autonomous system deployment.
