About the role
Disher is hiring an Engineering Manager for a food and beverage manufacturer based in Holland, Michigan. You will lead a group of manufacturing and controls engineers to define technical standards, manage capital projects, and optimize production processes.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Mentor and coach engineering staff to build technical skills and maintain high performance standards.
- Coordinate across departments including Sales, Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Safety, and Supply Chain.
- Create and enforce protocols for mechanical design, electrical systems, automation, and project documentation.
- Oversee external vendors, contractors, and consultants during equipment installations.
- Direct capital projects to ensure they meet safety, budget, and timeline targets.
- Execute process improvements to increase throughput and decrease equipment downtime.
- Manage departmental and capital expenditure budgets.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory, environmental, and food safety standards.
- Provide technical guidance on plant automation, including PLCs, HMIs, and industrial drives.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- At least 7 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing setting, ideally in food, beverage, dairy, or CPG.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a leadership role managing technical teams or capital projects.
- Proven track record of taking capital projects from initial concept to final commissioning.
- Experience with equipment design, process optimization, and automation.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and technical drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools.
Nice to have
- Professional certifications such as PE, PMP, or Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.
- Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
- Background in FDA or USDA regulated environments.
- Familiarity with ERP, MES, or CMMS platforms.
- Knowledge of sanitary equipment design and Good Manufacturing Practices.
