Senior Data Engineer, Ads

About the role

Discord is building out its advertising infrastructure to better serve a massive community of gamers. We are looking for a senior engineer to shape our ads data strategy, build scalable pipelines, and support our machine learning and product teams.

What you'll do

• Design core advertising data models, including fact and dimension tables, to support attribution, targeting, and measurement.
• Develop and manage ML data workflows, including feature engineering, label generation, and observability to maintain model performance.
• Integrate third-party attribution data and Mobile Measurement Partners like AppsFlyer, Adjust, and Singular.
• Build batch and near real-time pipeline infrastructure using our BigQuery, dbt, and Dagster stack.
• Implement data quality frameworks, automated anomaly detection, and SLA monitoring for large-scale datasets.
• Address foundational infrastructure gaps and architect solutions that serve multiple internal teams.
• Lead technical projects from scratch in a greenfield environment, balancing immediate needs with long-term scalability.
• Collaborate with Data Science, ML Engineering, and Product teams to align infrastructure with business goals.
• Mentor team members through design reviews and technical guidance.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, specifically working with high-volume consumer data in the advertising technology sector.
• Expertise in ads delivery, conversion measurement, attribution, or ML feature infrastructure.
• Proven ability to build data models in 0-to-1 environments with shifting requirements.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Experience managing data quality and anomaly detection for datasets containing billions of rows.
• Strong communication skills to influence technical stakeholders and drive project adoption.

Nice to have

• Experience with streaming or near real-time infrastructure such as Spark Streaming or Kafka.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau or Looker.
• Background in designing architecture for diverse use cases, including experimentation and reporting.
• Interest in Discord and gaming communities.
