About the role
Join the Data Centers team to manage both physical and cloud infrastructure with a focus on reliability and scale. You will oversee a global server fleet, drive automation and observability efforts, and lead capacity planning for physical data center needs. This position reports to the Engineering Manager, Data Centers and Networking.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Research and compare hardware options and colocation facilities, working with Engineering to balance performance and cost
- Create and execute cloud expansion plans across providers and regions
- Lead capacity planning and upgrade strategies using data to forecast growth and prevent bottlenecks
- Deploy servers at scale in data centers worldwide, maintaining consistent standards and automation
- Build and maintain automation for large fleets of servers, VMs, and containers to reduce manual work
- Coordinate with vendors on quotes, purchases, and scheduling for installations and maintenance
- Establish and improve monitoring for server, network, and data center health, including alerts, dashboards, and SLO metrics
- Write and maintain documentation such as runbooks, standards, and architecture diagrams
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule within Infrastructure Engineering and contribute to incident response and post-incident reviews
- Troubleshoot complex systems and network issues, serving as an escalation point for the team
- Mentor other System Administrators and engineers on Linux, automation, and operational practices
- Collaborate with Security on system hardening, compliance, and intrusion detection/prevention initiatives
Requirements
- Background in Systems or Software Engineering with a strong infrastructure and operations focus
- Deep experience with Linux on-premise and in cloud environments, including performance tuning, troubleshooting, and automation at scale
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, routing, firewalls, load balancing
- Hands-on data center experience including racking, stacking, cabling standards, and remote management
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS and hybrid infrastructure setups
- 5+ years in systems administration or similar roles, including leading cross-team projects and mentoring others
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with distributed teams
- Active passport required for occasional on-site travel when remote hands are unavailable
