About the role
David Joseph & Company is a seed-stage startup developing agentic AI to automate blueprint review for construction compliance and buildability. As a founding engineer, you will focus on increasing the accuracy of multimodal agents tasked with interpreting complex building codes and safety regulations.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead the end-to-end experiment loop, including ideation, implementation, and rigorous analysis of results.
- Enhance the performance of multimodal agents through autoresearch, evaluation improvements, and experimental sweeps.
- Develop expertise in building codes, including fire safety, accessibility, and structural requirements.
- Manage full-stack tasks including computer vision experiments, internal tooling, data engineering, and web application updates.
- Engage in approximately two hours of user interaction and product testing per week.
Requirements
- Ability to work on-site in San Francisco for approximately 55 hours per week, including some weekend availability.
- High level of autonomy and the ability to manage work without direct oversight.
- Proficiency in TypeScript for both front-end and back-end development.
- Experience as either a software engineer transitioning into AI or an ML engineer with a focus on rapid prototyping.
- Strong discipline regarding model evaluation and research.
- Commitment to the company mission of improving housing affordability.
Nice to have
- Prior experience in autonomous vehicle development or other highly regulated AI sectors like legal or medical technology.
- Background in climate-tech or mission-oriented startups.
- Strong academic credentials.
- Interest in analyzing dense regulatory documents and technical diagrams.
