Senior Software Engineer at Datadog.
About the role
The eBPF APM team develops zero-instrumentation observability tools that automatically identify services, decode traffic, and extract performance metrics. You will work on low-level systems, managing protocol parsing and encryption detection across various Linux environments.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and build core features for the zero-instrumentation APM product using Go and eBPF.
- Create systems for service auto-discovery, L7 protocol classification, and RED metric extraction from plaintext and TLS traffic.
- Address technical hurdles involving encryption, protocol parsing, and kernel-level performance.
- Maintain compatibility across diverse Linux distributions and kernel versions.
- Lead design initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system reliability and scale.
- Utilize and refine AI-driven coding tools to optimize development workflows and product quality.
Requirements
- Significant experience in backend or systems-level engineering.
- Proficiency in Go, C, or C++.
- Experience working close to the Linux kernel.
- Background in designing and operating scalable, reliable systems.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and contribute to a focused team.
- Demonstrated experience using AI coding tools to critique and improve software outputs.
Nice to have
- Practical experience with eBPF.
- Knowledge of networking protocols.
- Familiarity with TLS internals.
- Experience with distributed tracing.
