Senior Staff Product Designer, Design Lab

About the role

The Design Lab is spearheading a visual evolution for the Datadog platform to ensure our complex, data-heavy tools remain intuitive and cohesive. We are seeking a Senior Staff Product Designer to translate this new visual direction into functional product patterns and navigation. You will work directly with the Design Director to shape the future of our user experience across web, mobile, and AI-driven surfaces.

What you'll do

• Develop and stress-test the next visual direction of Datadog across core product journeys.
• Convert visual principles into specific decisions regarding layout, hierarchy, information architecture, and interaction patterns.
• Utilize visual language to manage data density and direct user attention effectively.
• Maintain a high quality bar for design work across the organization and align cross-functional teams.
• Prototype and refine new design patterns before they are integrated into the system.
• Collaborate with Product Design, Design Systems, and Engineering to establish durable implementation guidance.
• Create narratives and pilot projects that help internal teams adopt new design standards.
• Influence stakeholders across product, engineering, and executive leadership.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in product or visual design.
• Proven ability to execute high-quality design work independently.
• Deep understanding of the relationship between visual design and product functionality.
• Experience translating concepts into scalable patterns within a live product.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and operate effectively within large, complex organizations.
• A portfolio showcasing shipped product surfaces with high visual quality.
• Strong communication skills to align designers, engineers, and executives.
