Sr. Product Manager, Data Governance

About the role

You will lead product strategy for Unity Catalog, the core metadata and governance layer of the Databricks Lakehouse. This role involves managing the full product lifecycle, from gathering enterprise customer requirements to executing technical roadmaps and ensuring successful market adoption. You will own the vision and execution of security and governance features within the Unity Catalog framework. A core part of this position is building platform services that allow internal product teams to integrate workload-specific governance into their offerings. You will manage the end-to-end launch process, including customer ideation, technical rollout, marketing strategy, and field enablement. In this capacity, you will act as the voice of the customer by sharing market and persona insights with engineering and leadership teams. The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional partners to ensure that governance capabilities meet the evolving needs of data analysts, data scientists, and data engineers.

What you'll do

• Develop and release security and governance features within the Unity Catalog framework to ensure data compliance and control.

• Evaluate emerging data security and compliance frameworks to ensure Unity Catalog remains competitive and future-ready.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in B2B enterprise product management, with a proven track record of delivering complex software products.
• Degree in computer science or a related engineering field that provides a foundational understanding of data systems.
• Background in building products for data analysts, data scientists, or data engineers in data-intensive environments.
• Experience working with data warehouses, databases, catalogs, or security software to understand how governance integrates into these systems.
• Proven ability to deliver products through cross-functional collaboration with sales, marketing, and field engineering teams.
• Experience engaging with enterprise customers and ISV partners to gather feedback and validate solutions.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret product performance data and translate insights into actionable improvements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate vision, trade-offs, and rationale to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ownership and accountability for driving results in a fast-paced, matrixed organization.
• Willingness to travel as needed for customer engagements, partner meetings, and industry events.
• Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. government licenses if the role involves export-controlled technology or source code, as required by Databricks.
