About the role
Databricks is building a modern finance function that integrates automation and AI to support rapid global growth. We are seeking a Manager, Payroll Accounting to establish and lead our payroll accounting team in India. This is a foundational role responsible for defining our operating model and ensuring financial accuracy as we scale.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Direct month-end, quarter-end, and year-end payroll close cycles, including the approval of journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Conduct payroll flux analysis to explain period-over-period financial movements to leadership.
- Oversee payroll accounting for global entities, with a focus on complex jurisdictions such as Germany, India, France, Brazil, and the Netherlands.
- Manage multi-currency ledger reconciliations, intercompany cross-charges, and foreign exchange adjustments.
- Provide technical oversight for commission structures and stock-based compensation.
- Administer payroll accounting for equity programs including stock options, RSUs, and ESPP, ensuring accurate tax withholding and ledger reconciliation.
- Lead internal and external audits while maintaining compliance with SOX, US GAAP, and local tax regulations.
- Collaborate with legal, banking partners, and tax teams to set up accounting processes for new international subsidiaries.
- Monitor independent contractor relationships to ensure correct general ledger classification and mitigate compliance risks.
- Implement AI and automation tools to streamline data flow between financial systems and improve reconciliation accuracy.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of payroll accountants.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or Economics.
- 15+ years of total accounting experience, including at least 8+ years in payroll accounting.
- 4+ years of experience in a supervisory or management capacity within a US multinational company.
- Chartered Accountant (CA) or CPA certification.
- Demonstrated experience in equity compensation accounting, including RSUs, stock options, and ESPP.
- Technical proficiency in US GAAP, SOX compliance, and multi-jurisdictional tax laws.
- Experience working with cloud-based financial systems such as Workday, SAP, or Payslip.
- Ability to coordinate with remote teams and US-based accounting departments.
