About the role
You will lead the response to critical production incidents, acting as the primary incident commander while ensuring clear communication across technical and executive teams. This role balances hands-on reliability engineering with operational oversight to minimize downtime and drive long-term system improvements.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams during high-severity incidents to restore cloud-based services.
- Perform root cause analysis by investigating distributed systems and data stores.
- Author and distribute status updates for both internal stakeholders and external customers.
- Manage the documentation of post-incident learnings and track the completion of reliability action items.
- Develop and refine incident response playbooks and communication templates.
- Mentor team members on technical response protocols and effective incident communication.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in site reliability engineering, incident management, or production operations for large-scale, cloud-native environments.
- Proficiency in cloud infrastructure including compute, storage, networking, and observability.
- Ability to lead complex, multi-team responses during active service disruptions.
- Experience with log analysis, debugging, and identifying fault domains.
- Skilled in writing clear, accurate, and empathetic communications for diverse audiences.
- BS, Master's, or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Skills & tools
- Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar frameworks.
- Logging and search: Datadog, Elasticsearch, Splunk, or Cloud Logging.
- Programming/Scripting: Python, Go, or Bash.
