Senior Software Engineer at Customer.io
About the role
This position involves designing and maintaining the core infrastructure that supports a high-volume marketing automation platform. You will address complex challenges in distributed systems, ensuring reliability and scalability for millions of events and thousands of customers.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop and enhance distributed systems using Go to manage massive event volumes and data storage.
- Guide architectural choices for system performance, dependability, and real-time data handling.
- Improve inter-service communication through API design, messaging, and event-driven architectures.
- Identify and resolve system bottlenecks across teams to improve the customer experience.
- Address high-throughput demands in data pipelines, queues, and scheduling systems.
- Debug and resolve production issues at scale with effective monitoring.
- Share technical knowledge through writing, presentations, and mentorship.
- Utilize AI tools for faster prototyping and informed decision-making.
Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years of experience building scalable, distributed backend systems, preferably in Go or a comparable statically typed language.
- Extensive knowledge of both relational (MySQL, Postgres) and non-relational (DynamoDB, BigTable) databases and performance optimization.
- Experience working with cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
- Familiarity with API design, system observability, and managing production systems.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to owning technical decisions.

- Prior experience with event-driven systems, message queues, or data processing pipelines.

- Salary range: $150,000 - $200,000 USD annually, adjusted for experience and market rates.
