GTM AI Engineer at Customer.io
About the role
Customer.io is seeking a GTM AI Engineer to transform nascent AI agent prototypes into production-ready systems. You will be instrumental in ensuring these AI agents are reliable and scalable for our Go-To-Market teams. This role focuses on the foundational infrastructure that supports the expansion of AI agent deployment.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Guide newly developed AI agents from initial concept to a production-ready state, including writing evaluation tests, refining prompts and tool definitions, and restructuring prototype code into production-quality software.
- Implement tracing, logging, and monitoring across the fleet of AI agents to proactively identify and address issues before they impact users.
- Establish and manage the deployment pipelines for AI agents, ensuring consistent environments and release integrity within our Google Cloud Platform infrastructure.
- Oversee how AI agents interact with databases, managing data access and modifications securely and efficiently at scale.
- Monitor AI agent performance in live environments, troubleshoot problems, and implement ongoing improvements to enhance their utility.
- Collaborate closely with the GTM AI team, allowing them to focus on innovation while you manage operational stability and growth.
- Provide critical feedback on existing systems and propose actionable plans for improvement.
Requirements
- Possess at least 4 years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or a comparable technical field, preferably within a B2B SaaS context.
- Demonstrate proficiency in daily terminal use and a working knowledge of GitHub pull request and deployment workflows.
- Have experience with cloud hosting environments such as Kubernetes or virtual machines, with a strong preference for Google Cloud experience.
- Include hands-on experience with database administration and understanding how AI agents interact with and modify databases.
- Familiarity with the development of LLM-based applications, encompassing prompt engineering, tool/function calling, evaluation methods, and modern agent frameworks.
- Exhibit the ability to effectively prompt AI tools, critically assess their output, and direct them to self-evaluate their work.
- Balance the ability to iterate quickly with the discipline to ensure consistency as systems scale.
- Possess a clear perspective and be willing to question existing approaches with well-reasoned alternatives.

- Salary range: $140,000-$170,000 USD (or local equivalent), adjusted for experience and market rates.
