About the role
You will architect and own the strategic and operational blueprint for distributed energy and microgrid projects that de-risk and accelerate Crusoe's AI infrastructure deployments. You will translate ambiguous energy constraints into clear, actionable strategies that turn power bottlenecks into competitive advantages for our compute business. You will evaluate prospective sites and design resilient electrical systems that balance solar, battery storage, and gas generation for maximum uptime and efficiency. You will shepherd projects through the full development lifecycle, from initial concept and regulatory navigation to financing, construction, and final energization. You will build and maintain strong partnerships with utilities, regulators, and technology providers to ensure alignment and swift execution. You will communicate complex trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, framing solutions in terms of risk, return, and schedule. You will lead cross-functional incubation efforts that move promising energy opportunities from raw ideas to bankable, contracted power solutions. You will act as the technical and commercial voice for distributed energy within Crusoe, ensuring every project advances the mission of scaling abundant, intelligent energy.

What you'll do
Define the technical and commercial strategy for distributed energy and microgrid projects that directly support Crusoe's AI compute and infrastructure ambitions.
Conduct in-depth site and resource assessments, analyzing load profiles, grid constraints, and energy availability to identify optimal project locations and configurations.
Design integrated solutions that combine solar PV, battery energy storage, and gas generation, ensuring resilience, efficiency, and compliance with performance targets.
Navigate local, state, and federal permitting, environmental review, and interconnection processes, proactively managing risks and timelines.
Develop detailed financial models, translating project economics into clear value propositions that support investment decisions and financing.
Build and maintain relationships with utilities, regulators, technology vendors, and contractors to align project execution with Crusoe's objectives.
Lead technoeconomic analysis and scenario planning to compare technology options, market structures, and regulatory outcomes.
Translate complex engineering and market concepts into concise, persuasive narratives for internal leadership, partners, and external stakeholders.
Own critical project documents, including proposals, agreements, technical specifications, and compliance deliverables, ensuring clarity and completeness.
Drive projects from initial opportunity identification through detailed design, procurement, construction, and final energization and performance verification.
Monitor project performance post-commissioning, identifying optimization opportunities and ensuring delivery against contractual and operational commitments.
Represent Crusoe in external discussions, shaping the narrative around frontier energy technologies and market mechanisms for distributed power.
Partner closely with the Chief Strategy Officer to align distributed energy initiatives with corporate priorities, risk appetite, and long-term value creation.
Champion a bias toward action in ambiguous environments, balancing speed with rigorous analysis and disciplined execution.
Requirements
Demonstrate a track record of designing and executing microgrid and distributed energy projects at the hundreds-of-megawatts scale and above.
Possess deep expertise in site feasibility analysis, including resource assessment, load modeling, and grid impact evaluation.
Have substantial experience developing technical designs that integrate solar PV, battery storage, and gas generation in resilient configurations.
Show mastery of local, state, and federal permitting, environmental compliance, and interconnection processes relevant to energy projects.
Bring proven ability to build and use detailed financial models that convert technical designs into bankable investment cases.
Exhibit strong relationship-building and negotiation skills, with a history of partnering effectively with utilities, regulators, and contractors.
Communicate complex technical and market information clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Hold a strong understanding of power markets, energy project development, and the financial and risk dynamics of large-scale infrastructure.
Display exceptional critical thinking, leadership, and presentation skills, with a high degree of ownership and agency.

Experience with emerging frontier energy technologies and market mechanisms that could provide flexible, contractable power.
Background in early-stage energy project incubation and scaling within fast-growth technology companies.
Familiarity with AI and compute infrastructure energy demands and how distributed resources can support those needs.

The role involves significant in-person collaboration at our Denver, CO office and may require travel to project sites.
