About the role
Corning is looking for a scientist to join the Brittle Materials group within the Product Reliability Technology directorate. You will focus on modeling mechanical behavior, developing reliability methodologies, and characterizing glass, ceramics, and thin films to support our automotive, mobile electronics, and optics divisions.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Partner with project leads to design and carry out experimental research.
- Prepare test samples and manage the lifecycle of laboratory equipment, including troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Utilize mechanics-of-materials theory to evaluate material performance and design testing protocols.
- Summarize findings and create reports for internal stakeholders.
- Manage laboratory workflows and coordinate with project partners to meet research goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in materials engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 1 year of professional experience in mechanical or materials engineering, specifically with inorganic brittle materials.
- Ability to work independently and maintain high standards for data accuracy and organization.
- Hands-on technical proficiency.
Nice to have
- Master degree.
- Experience with characterization equipment including SEM, TEM, SIMS, optical profilers, and microscopes.
- Knowledge of DAQ systems, CAD software, and mathematical analysis tools.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical testing, such as 2PB, 4PB, or RoR, or building custom test hardware.
- Proficiency in Python, computer programming, or AI/ML tools.
