Cornelisnetworks is currently looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer to become part of their growing engineering organization based in Wayne, Pennsylvania. What you'll do
- Design and develop new mechanical components and subsystems using industry-standard CAD modeling software and engineering best practices.
- Perform detailed stress, thermal, and fatigue analyses using finite element methods to ensure product reliability and safety standards.
- Create comprehensive technical drawings, bills of materials, and assembly instructions that clearly communicate design intent to manufacturing partners.
- Evaluate and qualify external vendors by reviewing their proposals, capabilities, and quality processes for mechanical part sourcing.
- Build and test physical prototypes, then systematically document test outcomes to guide iterative design improvements and refinements.
- Coordinate with electrical engineers and software developers to ensure effective mechanical and electronic integration across product platforms.
- Revise and maintain existing mechanical designs as new requirements emerge, regulatory standards change, or customer feedback is received.
- Investigate field failures and manufacturing defects through structured root cause analysis, then implement lasting corrective actions.
- Provide direct technical support to production floor personnel when mechanical issues arise during the manufacturing process.
- Compile thorough engineering documentation and present project progress, findings, and recommendations to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Prioritize and manage several concurrent engineering projects, ensuring each stays within its allocated timeline, budget, and quality targets.
- Contribute to formal design review sessions by offering detailed technical critiques and actionable suggestions to fellow engineers.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated proficiency with three-dimensional CAD software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or Siemens NX for creating detailed models.
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, engineering drawing standards, and mechanical design conventions used in industry.
- Hands-on experience with finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, or other simulation tools to predict real-world performance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities for preparing clear technical reports, presentations, and cross-team correspondence.
- Proven capacity to work independently, set priorities, and manage competing tasks in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
- Familiarity with common manufacturing processes including computer numerical control machining, metal casting, and plastic injection molding techniques.
- Willingness to travel on occasion to supplier facilities, manufacturing sites, or customer locations to support field activities.
Nice to have
- Prior exposure to programmable logic controllers, electromechanical actuators, or motion control subsystems in a product environment.
- Working knowledge of quality management systems such as ISO 9001 or AS9100 and their application in engineering workflows.
- Previous professional experience in a regulated sector including medical devices, aerospace components, or industrial automation equipment.
- Programming ability in Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting languages to automate repetitive engineering calculations and data processing tasks.
Skills & tools
- SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or other three-dimensional parametric CAD platforms for part and assembly modeling.
- ANSYS Mechanical, Abaqus, or comparable finite element analysis software for structural and thermal simulation work.
- Microsoft Office Suite, with particular emphasis on Excel for data analysis and PowerPoint for technical presentations.
- Product lifecycle management and document control systems for maintaining versioned engineering files and revision histories.
- Thorough understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing symbols, annotations, and their interpretation on engineering drawings.
- Basic familiarity with electrical schematics, circuit concepts, and systems-level integration considerations in mechatronic products.
