Staff Network Engineer, Backbone

About the role

This role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining the core network infrastructure that powers CoreWeave's cloud platform. You will be instrumental in scaling our backbone network to support advanced AI workloads and high-performance computing. Your work will directly impact the reliability and speed of our global data centers.

What you'll do

• Architect and implement large-scale network designs for our backbone and data center interconnects.
• Optimize network performance and ensure high availability for critical AI infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot complex network issues across various layers of the network stack.
• Collaborate with other engineering teams to integrate new services and features into the network.
• Develop and maintain network automation tools and processes.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support production network operations.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in network engineering, with a focus on large-scale backbone or service provider networks.
• Deep understanding of BGP, OSPF, ISIS, and other routing protocols.
• Expertise in network hardware from vendors like Arista, Cisco, or Juniper.
• Strong knowledge of network automation using Python or similar scripting languages.
• Experience with network monitoring and observability tools.
• Ability to design and implement highly available and fault-tolerant network architectures.

Nice to have

• Experience with EVPN/VXLAN deployments.
• Familiarity with cloud networking concepts and technologies.
• Contributions to open-source networking projects.
• Experience with DDoS mitigation strategies.
