About the role
This position centers on the Ocean CDR Atlas, a core open-data library within the [C]Worthy infrastructure, and you will own the schema design and quality assurance of regional model outputs that power this library. You will translate intricate modeling procedures into accessible documentation for external stakeholders, ensuring that scientific clarity is maintained for non-experts. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to keep atlas releases synchronized with the latest scientific understanding and methodological advances. Your contributions will uphold reproducible practices that rigorously link modeling processes, observational data, and decision-support applications. You will act as a bridge between computational modeling teams and end-users to ensure that the atlas remains both scientifically robust and practically useful. Your work will directly support the integrity and transparency of ocean carbon dioxide removal assessments. Ultimately, you will help maintain an open dataset library that maps CDR performance, connectivity, and risk drivers for global use.

Compensation
The salary for this role is $70,000 per year.
What you'll do
- Architect intake pipelines that enforce standardized regional model configurations for C-Star across diverse ocean domains.
- Establish build procedures that connect versioned inputs to automated workflows within the C-Star Ocean Network (C-SON) to ensure traceability.
- Lead review sessions that assess provenance tracking and documentation quality for atlas datasets, identifying gaps and improvement paths.
- Coordinate data shipment routines that move refined model outputs into the Ocean CDR Atlas library while preserving metadata integrity.
- Build partner integrations that align C-Star domains with other modeling initiatives to foster interoperability and reduce duplication.
- Implement validation checks that verify consistency across regional configurations and data formats to prevent systemic errors.
- Maintain detailed documentation trails that record decisions, assumptions, and parameter choices to support audits and future replication.
- Facilitate community training sessions that enable diverse users to work effectively with atlas tools and understand underlying methodologies.
- Collaborate with the C-Star and C-SON teams to iterate on data structures based on user feedback and emerging science.
- Translate complex modeling workflows into clear narratives that help stakeholders understand uncertainties and limitations.
- Support the continuous improvement of the atlas by incorporating best practices from open science and reproducible research communities.
- Ensure that all atlas outputs are accessible, well-described, and aligned with the broader goals of the [C]Worthy infrastructure.
Requirements
You hold a doctorate in oceanography, climate science, or a closely related discipline that provides a deep foundation in marine biogeochemical processes. You bring three to five years of postdoctoral experience in ocean biogeochemistry or ecosystem modeling, demonstrating sustained research output in these areas. You demonstrate strong proficiency in Python, NetCDF, and standard scientific computing workflows, including data wrangling, analysis, and visualization. You can read and contribute to JavaScript code that supports web interface components, enabling you to collaborate effectively with front-end developers. You can explain model behavior clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, making complex concepts understandable without losing nuance. You can manage complex workflows across distributed teams while maintaining rigorous version control using tools such as Git and GitHub. You are comfortable working within a structured documentation and review process to ensure high-quality deliverables. You are committed to open science principles and willing to engage with open-source tools that support transparent and auditable workflows.

You have hands-on experience with ocean biogeochemical models and marine carbon cycle concepts, allowing you to engage deeply with the scientific content of the atlas.
