Staff Machine Learning Engineer

About the role

Conga is hiring a technical leader to oversee machine learning projects and align AI strategy with business objectives. You will architect end-to-end solutions, manage production systems, and mentor team members to ensure high-quality technical delivery.

What you'll do

• Design and implement full-cycle machine learning and AI solutions.
• Integrate models into business applications while ensuring scalability and performance.
• Coordinate cross-functional efforts between Engineering, Product Management, and science teams.
• Lead small to medium-sized initiatives and conduct code reviews to maintain technical standards.
• Represent the Science team in operational meetings and define project workflows.

Requirements

• Over 8 years of total industry experience, with at least 5 years focused on AI/ML design, development, and deployment.
• Proficiency in Python and ML libraries including TensorFlow, PyTorch, XgBoost, Scikit-learn, and Spark ML.
• Experience with model versioning and management using Git and MLFlow.
• Hands-on experience fine-tuning transformer models like BERT, RoBERTa, LegalBERT, or DeBERTa using HuggingFace, PEFT, and LoRA.
• Expertise in cloud platforms such as Azure and Databricks, plus data tools like Spark and Pandas.
• Deep knowledge in one of the following: Named Entity Recognition/Ontology, Document search (BM25, Vector search, Re-rankers), or Recommendation systems (collaborative filtering, content-based, hybrid, two-tower, learning-to-rank).

Nice to have

• Ph.D. in Machine Learning.
• Experience with NLP in the legal sector, including semantic search or document classification.
• Proven ability to translate high-level business requirements into technical architectures.
• Experience promoting ethical AI practices and mentoring junior staff.
• Relevant AI/ML certifications.
