Manager, Software Engineering

About the role

Conga is looking for a Manager, Software Engineering to lead a team within the AI Engineering group. You will oversee engineers who build the AI/ML foundations behind product capabilities such as personalization, forecasting, NLP, recommendations, and generative AI. This position involves close collaboration with Engineering Managers, Architects, Data Scientists, Product Managers, and Directors across the AI Pillar.

What you'll do

• Lead and develop a team of software engineers focused on AI/ML platform components
• Drive strategy and execution for feature stores, distributed model training, model versioning, and evaluation systems
• Oversee monitoring, drift detection, and automated retraining pipelines
• Build frameworks for responsible AI, explainability, and fairness
• Partner with Data Science and domain engineering teams to create scalable foundations for real-time and batch applications
• Influence technical strategy and contribute to the AI roadmap
• Mentor engineers, foster collaboration, and support continuous improvement
• Translate business requirements into engineering deliverables and guide architectural decisions

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• 3+ years managing engineering teams
• Deep understanding of both Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Machine Learning Lifecycle (MLLC), including experimentation, training, deployment, monitoring, and governance
• Production experience implementing AI/ML solutions integrated into real-time and batch applications
• Proficiency in Python (preferred), Java, C#, or Scala
• Familiarity with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, MLflow, scikit-learn, or HuggingFace
• Knowledge of object-oriented programming, concurrency, microservices, REST APIs, and test-driven development
• Experience with testing tools and concepts (white/black box testing, coverage, mocking) using PyTest, xUnit, or Selenium
• Hands-on experience with GCP services (BigQuery, GKE, GCS, DataFlow, Kubeflow, Vertex AI) or equivalent AWS/Azure platforms
• Familiarity with IaC and CI/CD tools such as Terraform, GitHub Actions, Concourse, or Ansible
• Strong communication skills with ability to break down complex tasks and deliver outcomes on time
• Ability to collaborate across Product, Data Science, ML-Ops, and DevOps teams

Nice to have

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computational Linguistics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Experience with AI product lifecycle management, model governance, and release management
• Strong architectural instincts and technical oversight experience for AI/ML systems
• Track record of hiring, coaching, and developing engineering talent
