Senior Manager, Detection & Response
About the role
Lead the strategic direction and operational execution for Confluent's security threat detection and response initiatives. You will guide a global engineering team in building advanced systems to identify and address security incidents across our cloud infrastructure.

What you'll do
- Shape the long-term vision and oversee the implementation of Confluent's security detection and response strategy for multi-cloud environments.
- Develop, expand, and mentor a geographically dispersed team of engineers located in North America and India.
- Advance detection engineering and incident response capabilities by applying contemporary software development practices, with a focus on large-scale automation.
- Manage security incident response operations, acting as a key escalation point and incident commander during critical security events, and ensuring thorough post-incident analysis.
- Define and track operational metrics to continuously assess and enhance the program's effectiveness.
- Collaborate with engineering departments and other stakeholders, including legal and compliance, to embed detection telemetry and proactive response mechanisms throughout the company.
- Foster a security culture within engineering that prioritizes automation, reduces alert fatigue, and drives continuous improvement to streamline responder workflows.
Requirements
- A minimum of 12 years of experience in software development, security engineering, or security operations, including at least 5 years in a direct engineering or security management capacity.
- A demonstrated history of successfully building, mentoring, and scaling engineering teams across different time zones.
- Extensive technical knowledge in detection engineering, incident response, and threat intelligence. Experience with developing or managing large-scale data or event processing systems, modern telemetry platforms, or stream processing architectures is essential.
- Proven ability to lead high-stakes security incidents with composure, clarity, and effective cross-functional coordination.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the capacity to clearly articulate complex security risks and translate them into actionable strategic priorities for engineering leadership.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
