Distributed Systems Software Engineer

About the role

Join a focused team building a Kafka-compatible data streaming platform that operates entirely on object storage. You will contribute to all aspects of this product, from its core storage engine to its control plane and developer interface. This is an opportunity to solve significant distributed systems challenges at scale.

What you'll do

• Take ownership of complex engineering initiatives from conception through completion.
• Develop and deploy critical backend services designed for high performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Investigate and resolve technical issues within a multifaceted technology stack.
• Ensure services meet stringent availability and performance commitments for customers.
• Contribute to features such as transactions, multi-region clusters, and the developer console.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in designing, building, and maintaining backend systems in production environments.
• Demonstrated proficiency in a primary programming language such as Java, Go, C/C++, or Python.
• A deep interest in distributed and storage systems.
• Strong project execution and communication abilities.
• Experience managing the operational aspects of large-scale production services.
• A customer-focused mindset, with a capacity for teamwork, technical leadership, and mentorship.

Nice to have

• A history of successfully delivering large-scale, highly available, and high-quality systems.
• Practical experience in large-scale systems engineering or distributed systems.
• Experience with on-call rotations for critical systems.
