Staff Software Engineer

About the role

Commure is building an AI-powered operating system to modernize healthcare delivery, documentation, and financial workflows. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Air Billing team, you will lead the architectural overhaul of our practice management platform to improve productivity for medical billers nationwide.

What you'll do

• Define the technical strategy for our billing platform, ensuring consistent architecture across multiple engineering teams.
• Establish standards for component libraries, API contracts, testing protocols, and observability.
• Lead complex, cross-team initiatives including high-scale data rendering, bulk record processing, and unified claim activity tracking.
• Integrate AI features into billing workflows to resolve specific user friction points.
• Mentor engineers, conduct architecture reviews, and maintain production reliability for high-traffic surfaces.
• Collaborate with product, design, and operations teams to translate complex billing requirements into efficient software.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in full-stack application development.
• Proven ability to lead frontend architecture and design system adoption across a large organization.
• Deep expertise in TypeScript, React, Python, and PostgreSQL.
• Experience designing APIs for large datasets, including filtering, grouping, and pagination.
• Track record of driving multi-team, multi-month migrations or platform rebuilds to completion.
• Strong skills in debugging, observability, and performance optimization for complex UIs.
• Ability to communicate technical direction to both leadership and engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with OLAP stores such as StarRocks, ClickHouse, or Druid.
• Knowledge of healthcare billing data standards like EDI X12 (270/271, 276/277, 835, 837), ERAs, EOBs, and denial codes.
• Experience deploying LLM-powered features into production environments.
• Background in highly regulated sectors like finance, insurance, or healthcare.
• Experience with frontend developer tooling and CI/CD pipelines.

Skills & tools

• React 19, TypeScript, Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Columnar analytical warehouses.
