Software Engineer, Biller Workflows

About the role

Join the Air Billing team to enhance the core practice management product, focusing on high-traffic areas like claims, appointments, and payment processing. This role involves developing sophisticated, data-intensive, keyboard-driven workflows for billers and practice staff. You will contribute to a significant rebuild of these surfaces, integrating AI where it most effectively reduces daily friction.

What you'll do

• Take full ownership of features on claims, appointments, and payment surfaces, from initial design to production release.
• Produce high-quality, production-ready code, including comprehensive tests and robust observability.
• Design clear interfaces and data models that can scale with evolving surface requirements.
• Collaborate with product, design, and billing operations to ensure delivered features effectively solve workflow challenges.
• Implement reliability and observability measures, such as dashboards, logging, and alerting, to quickly identify and resolve production issues.
• Conduct code and design reviews, focusing on correctness, performance for data-dense screens, and a consistent user experience.
• Help establish technical standards and direction for the team as it grows, influencing component patterns, API conventions, and testing practices.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience building full-stack applications and successfully deploying features to production.
• Strong frontend development skills, capable of creating clean UIs and troubleshooting rendering problems on data-rich displays.
• Foundational understanding of APIs and data layers, including building backend endpoints for filtering and pagination over large datasets.
• Sound technical judgment for feature-level work, including evaluating tradeoffs, escalating risks, and avoiding over-engineering.
• Good instincts for debugging and observability, with comfort in monitoring, logging, and alerting tools.
• Clear communication skills, keeping teammates and partners informed and asking questions proactively.
• A mindset of ownership and a drive to act, taking responsibility for features and following through with urgency.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with healthcare billing data, such as EDI X12 transactions (270/271, 276/277, 835, 837), clearinghouses, ERAs/EOBs, and denial codes, or a proven ability to quickly learn complex domains.
• Experience deploying LLM-powered features into production workflows.
• Exposure to analytical/OLAP stores in addition to transactional databases.
• Strong product intuition and a history of influencing UX/UI decisions to improve usability.
• Experience working in regulated sectors like healthcare, finance, or insurance, with an emphasis on security and compliance.
