Staff Software Engineer, Core AI Infrastructure

About the role

You will join the IT Operations team within ESTO to build and scale the foundation for AI products at Coinbase. This role focuses on creating production-ready distributed systems and internal tools that allow product teams to integrate AI capabilities efficiently.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain production-grade distributed systems, including serving infrastructure, data pipelines, and deployment orchestration.
• Create developer-facing tools, APIs, and abstractions to streamline AI integration for other engineering groups.
• Collaborate with leadership across the organization to manage technical dependencies and define infrastructure contracts.
• Establish architectural standards and mentor team members to improve code quality and operational reliability.
• Write full-stack applications using Go or Python to support internal AI infrastructure.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure automation and network support, specifically within AWS.
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or Salt.
• Demonstrated success in managing and troubleshooting containerized production workloads using Kubernetes and Docker.
• Proficiency in at least one language among Python, Bash, Ruby, or Go, plus experience with Git-based CI/CD pipelines.
• A history of building reusable platforms and abstractions that have been adopted by multiple engineering teams.
• Ability to apply generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight for business outcomes.

Practical notes

• Annual base salary range: $218,025 to $256,500 USD.
• Total compensation includes equity, bonus eligibility, and benefits like medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
