Forward Deployed Engineer, Finance [Office of the CTO]

About the role

This position places you as a founding engineer within the Finance organization, reporting directly to the Office of the CTO. You will bridge the gap between financial operations and engineering, using AI to automate complex processes for global subsidiaries.

What you'll do

• Partner with FP&A and Treasury leadership to identify automation opportunities for workflows like period-end close, liquidity stress-testing, and variance analysis.
• Build prototypes using the existing Coinbase AI platform and determine when to build new tools versus buying or integrating vendor solutions.
• Manage the Finance automation roadmap, translating financial requirements into technical specifications for budgeting, GL reconciliation, and regulatory filings.
• Design systems that prioritize auditability, SOX compliance, and human-in-the-loop controls for all automated financial outputs.
• Lead internal training, prototype demonstrations, and feedback sessions to ensure high adoption rates across finance teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including shipping production systems in complex, stakeholder-driven environments.
• Hands-on technical experience with LLM-based applications, specifically regarding prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, and hallucination mitigation.
• Ability to work directly with non-technical domain experts to understand and document intricate business workflows.
• Understanding of financial systems including ERP data flows, trial balances, reconciliation logic, and SOX-controlled environments.
• Experience in Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or similar embedded technical advisory roles within fintech or enterprise automation.
• Knowledge of multi-agent orchestration, including agent handoffs, escalation paths, and audit trails.

Nice to have

• Experience with greenfield development projects.
• Previous exposure to NetSuite, Workday, or Anaplan.

Practical notes

• Annual base salary range: $218,025 - $256,500 USD.
• Total compensation includes equity, bonus eligibility, and benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
• The company holds quarterly in-person working sessions known as surges.
