Engagement Architect

About the role

Coalfire is on the lookout for an Engagement Architect who will take charge of the entire lifecycle of projects involving FedRAMP-compliant cloud environments. In this role, you will serve as the technical lead for client interactions, guiding the project from the initial contract phase through to architecture design, security implementation, and the final transition to managed services. Your expertise will help ensure that clients receive top-notch service and that all security standards are met throughout the process.

What you'll do

• Oversee client projects from the moment contracts are signed until the final transition to operational teams.
• Tailor Coalfire's reference architectures to meet the specific needs of client applications and their operational boundaries.
• Implement security controls and develop automated pipelines to facilitate continuous validation of security measures.
• Lead internal engineering teams in the deployment of solutions related to identity management, monitoring, and change management.
• Ensure that all quality assurance checkpoints are achieved and that security controls are functioning effectively before handing over to operations.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison for clients, managing project milestones, identifying risks, and defining project scope.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of architectural decisions and contribute to the development of internal standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.
• Conduct regular project reviews and updates to ensure transparency and maintain client trust.
• Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on best practices in cloud architecture and security.
• Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve service offerings.
• Participate in client meetings to discuss project status, gather feedback, and address any concerns.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant IT field or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates equivalent knowledge.
• At least 8 years of experience in cloud architecture or engineering, with a strong focus on security.
• A minimum of 3 years in a technical leadership role, specifically working with external clients.
• Familiarity with FedRAMP authorizations or experience in similarly regulated environments, such as DoD impact levels, StateRAMP, PCI, or HIPAA.
• Expertise in infrastructure as code, cloud networking, identity management, and logging, particularly on platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• A professional-level cloud certification from AWS, Azure, or GCP is required.
• Strong communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to both technical teams and project stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of FedRAMP 20x, Key Security Indicators, and compliance artifacts such as OSCAL or JSON.
• Experience with fixed-price or productized delivery models, enhancing project efficiency.
• Possession of CISSP or other relevant cloud security certifications to bolster your qualifications.
• Understanding of security benchmarks and compliance frameworks, including CIS Benchmarks, DISA STIGs, FISMA, HIPAA, HITRUST, or PCI.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
• Skilled in Identity and Access Management practices.
• Knowledgeable in Logging and Monitoring solutions.
• Strong understanding of Cloud Networking principles.

• Travel requirements for this position range from 10 to 25 percent, depending on client needs and project demands.
• U.S. citizenship is preferred due to the nature of the federal compliance programs involved.
