- Collaborate with other engineering teams to integrate their support and admin applications onto the platform, focusing on smooth, governed, and scalable solutions.
- Work directly with non-engineering teams like Support, Legal, and Security to translate their operational needs into reliable and maintainable platform capabilities.
- Manage and enhance the platform's security and authorization, working with Security and Legal to implement access control policies and compliance standards.
- Quickly learn and improve existing codebases across various Cloudflare systems to reduce operational burden and boost platform reliability.
- Participate in on-call rotations, respond to production issues, and conduct post-incident reviews to improve platform reliability and scalability.
- Contribute to platform observability, developer experience, and engineering standards, impacting all teams that rely on the platform.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience building and operating production backend services for large organizations.
- Strong proficiency in Go and/or TypeScript.
- Demonstrated experience in platform engineering, internal tooling, or support/admin systems, with direct experience assisting non-technical users or customer-facing teams.
- Deep understanding of authorization and authentication systems (e.g., OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, OPA/Rego, role-based access control, policy-based access) and a security-first approach to system design.
- Proven ability to design and operate systems that serve a large and diverse internal user base with varied reliability and performance needs.
- Ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries, engaging with engineering teams, Security, Legal, and non-technical operational stakeholders.
- Comfortable working with unfamiliar and legacy codebases, able to quickly understand and contribute incrementally.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining technical details to diverse stakeholders and understanding their business or operational needs.
- Advanced, hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker in production environments, including cluster operations, resource management, networking, and debugging containerized workloads.
- Strong database experience, including schema design, query optimization, and operating databases in high-availability production environments.
Nice to have
- Experience building or operating internal support tools, admin consoles, case management systems, or operational dashboards for non-engineering teams at enterprise scale.
- Familiarity with security governance workflows, compliance tooling, or working with Security or Legal teams on access control requirements.
- Exposure to Cloudflare's product ecosystem (Workers, Access, Zero Trust, Gateway) as a user or implementer.
- Experience with observability tooling and practices, including distributed tracing, structured logging, and metrics dashboards (e.g., Grafana, Kibana, Jaeger).
- Experience with Terraform for infrastructure-as-code and GitLab CI/CD for automated build, test, and deployment pipelines.
- Exposure to Temporal workflows or distributed workflow orchestration.
