About the role
Ciandt is seeking a technical leader to manage critical systems within the benefits sector. You will bridge the gap between a complex legacy J2EE monolith on WebSphere and a modern cloud-native ecosystem of microservices and microfrontends.

What you'll do
- Act as the primary technical reference for the team, providing end-to-end troubleshooting support.
- Drive architectural decisions to modernize existing systems while maintaining stability.
- Mentor the team to improve technical maturity and engineering standards.
- Navigate and maintain legacy codebases from the 2000s alongside current software development practices.
Requirements
- Extensive Java experience from version 8 through 21, covering Spring Boot 3.x, Quarkus for AWS Lambda, and legacy components like EJB 2.1, Servlets, JSP, and SOAP via Apache Axis or JAX-WS.
- Expertise in microservices architecture, including domain decomposition, API and orchestrator patterns, and asynchronous messaging.
- Proficiency with IBM WebSphere Traditional, including tuning, troubleshooting, and deploying EAR/WAR files.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle and MongoDB databases.
- Cloud skills in AWS, specifically Lambda, SQS, SNS, S3, ECR, and Parameter Store.
- Experience with Docker and Red Hat OpenShift (OCP4) orchestration.
- Knowledge of Azure DevOps Pipelines, SonarQube, and Veracode for CI/CD.
- Testing proficiency with JUnit 5, Mockito, WireMock, and JaCoCo.
- Strong grasp of Clean Code, SOLID principles, and Agile methodologies like Scrum and Kanban.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with legacy Java J2EE (Session Beans, MDBs, Hibernate XML mapping).
- Experience with SAP integration via JCo (RFC).
- Knowledge of JMS and ActiveMQ in legacy environments.
- Proficiency with build tools including Maven, Ant, and Gradle.
- Ability to optimize Docker images using Red Hat UBI or OpenJDK golden images.
- PostgreSQL familiarity.
