Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Checkr is seeking a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join the Trust team, a startup-style unit within the larger organization. You will manage the full development lifecycle of products that provide risk signals for millions of users across industries like short-term rentals and car sharing.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Design and launch new products by collaborating with customers, engineering peers, and leadership.
• Manage end-to-end application development from conceptualization to final delivery.
• Develop and maintain APIs, including integrations with external third-party services.
• Partner with customer success teams and stakeholders to translate user needs into functional features.
• Ensure code quality through rigorous testing, peer reviews, and maintenance.
• Execute product experiments to gather data and inform future development cycles.
• Architect and build scalable, asynchronous, event-based systems capable of managing high traffic volumes.

Requirements

• BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in full stack software development.
• Previous experience in early-stage or fast-paced startup environments.
• High proficiency in Ruby on Rails and JavaScript/React or comparable technology stacks.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and balance rapid MVP delivery with long-term product quality.
• Strong bias for action and a demonstrated history of taking ownership to drive outcomes.

Nice to have

• Background in trust and safety, identity verification, background checks, or criminal data.
• Expertise in data processing and analysis.
• Experience with web scraping technologies.
• Technical architecture experience supporting 10 million+ users, including container orchestration and observability.

Practical notes

• Base salary range for San Francisco: $185,000 to $218,000 USD.
