About the role
Checkr provides an AI verification platform used by over 140,000 companies to facilitate hiring, housing, and transportation decisions. This role involves managing the intersection of AI, data privacy, and background screening laws to support our product development and government relations. You will report to the Director of Product and Privacy Legal and act as a primary advisor on regulatory risks and policy advocacy.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Monitor global, federal, state, and county legal updates to provide clear compliance guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Perform risk assessments on regulatory changes to determine their impact on company operations and product roadmaps.
- Represent Checkr before regulators and government officials to advocate for industry-relevant policies.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Customer Success teams to integrate regulatory requirements into product workflows.
- Manage the internal policy hub to track advocacy positions and regulatory developments.
- Cultivate relationships with trade associations, non-profits, and customer policy teams to advance collaborative goals.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
- Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in government affairs, policy, or regulatory law.
- Direct experience engaging with regulators or policymakers at the local, state, or federal level.
- Background working within highly regulated sectors such as employment, financial services, healthcare, or consumer reporting.
- Ability to synthesize complex legal information into practical advice for non-legal business partners.
Nice to have
- Experience with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
- Knowledge of AI-specific regulations and policy trends.
- Familiarity with privacy frameworks including GDPR, CCPA, and DPPA.
