Senior Data Engineer at Checkr.
About the role
Join the People Data team to develop and maintain the centralized platform that manages identity and record storage for all Checkr products. You will lead the engineering of core services and data pipelines to ensure our systems remain accurate and performant as the company scales.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Manage the full development lifecycle for new data platform capabilities and pipelines.
- Take ownership of core services, balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term system reliability.
- Build and maintain batch and streaming data pipelines for identity and people records.
- Collaborate with Product, Workforce, Tenant, Trust, and Personal teams to define roadmaps and project scopes.
- Participate in on-call rotations to maintain platform uptime and resolve production incidents.
- Mentor team members and contribute to technical reviews and organizational proposals.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience focused on backend services or data platforms.
- Proficiency in Python, PySpark, and SQL.
- Strong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, and relational or NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
- Experience building large-scale ETL/ELT, batch, and stream processing pipelines.
- Familiarity with big data tools including Kafka, Spark, Iceberg, and data lakes.
- Experience with the AWS stack, specifically EKS, EMR, Glue, Athena, and S3.
- Expertise in domain modeling, data modeling, and system architecture.
- Knowledge of data privacy standards and security best practices.

- Experience using Databricks or Snowflake.

Practical notes
- Compensation (San Francisco): $185,000 to $218,000 USD.
- Compensation (Denver): $157,000 to $185,000 USD.
