Frontend Software Engineer

About the role

Chalk develops a data platform designed to remove the technical hurdles that limit machine learning applications. We are looking for engineers to join our San Francisco office to help build high-performance tools that support critical tasks like fraud detection and energy management.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Partner with the co-founders to bring the initial version of our platform to production.
• Lead architectural decisions and technical planning for our frontend systems.
• Build interfaces that allow data scientists and machine learning engineers to interact with our core platform.
• Develop and maintain reusable components to improve overall development speed.
• Adapt the platform quickly based on direct feedback from our customers.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, React, Python, and Go.
• Deep expertise in frontend patterns and best practices, paired with a solid grasp of backend systems.
• Ability to work independently, make pragmatic technical tradeoffs, and focus on business results.
• Strong communication skills and a focus on high-quality user experience.
• Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals applied to real-world software maintenance.

Nice to have

• Background in data infrastructure or developer tools.
• Experience with applied machine learning or data analytics.
• Practical experience with Go.
