About the role

Your work will involve the development and enhancement of systems that monitor radiation and environmental impacts, utilizing modern methodologies and technologies throughout the hardware and firmware lifecycle.

What you'll do
- Design and create mixed-signal electronics, emphasizing analog sensor interfaces and circuits for ultra-low current measurements.
- Develop and maintain embedded code using VHDL and C for system control, data processing, and hardware interfacing.
- Maintain the firmware development environment, ensuring tools, build flow, and supporting infrastructure are up to date.
- Adapt the Multi-Processor System-on-Chip (MPSoC) architecture to facilitate necessary communication interfaces and onboard processing.
- Implement firmware updates to align with system functional and performance specifications.
- Conduct functional tests to confirm that the systems operate correctly under expected conditions.
- Create specialized electronic test boards and complex test setups to evaluate systems under radiation at CERN and external facilities.
- Characterize newly developed systems through measurement, analysis, and validation to ensure they meet functional and performance standards.
- Troubleshoot issues during testing, identify root causes, and apply corrective actions as necessary.
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and software teams to ensure smooth system integration and dependable operation.
- Document all developments meticulously, using version control and collaborative tools like GitLab and Jira to maintain traceability.
Requirements
- A Master's degree, PhD, or equivalent experience in Electronics Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in complex HDL firmware development for FPGA, including data readout and processing, HDL simulation, and timing constraints.
- Proficiency in software scripting and programming, particularly in C and Python.
- Familiarity with digital design methodologies and verification processes, with experience in ASIC development.
- Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines, focusing on automation for build, test, and deployment.
- Demonstrated skills in mixed-signal electronics design, including both analog and digital board development.
- Experience in precision analog front-end design and techniques for low-current measurements.
- Familiarity with radiation monitoring tests and system characterization in pulsed radiation fields is advantageous.
- Ability to analyze testing results, troubleshoot problems, and implement necessary improvements is a plus.
Nice to have
- Experience in the design and simulation of FPGA-based electronics.
- Knowledge of front-end electronics design for analog sensors and transducers.
- Background in developing software for embedded and real-time systems, with or without an operating system.
- Understanding of instrumentation and measurement techniques.
- Experience designing ultra-low-current circuits.
