This position involves overseeing the design, construction, and maintenance of cooling and ventilation systems for large-scale physics experiments and accelerators. The successful candidate will contribute to sustainable practices in cooling and ventilation, focusing on energy efficiency and system optimization.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with key stakeholders to gather and define user requirements for cooling and ventilation systems.
• Conduct feasibility studies and create detailed designs for industrial cooling and HVAC systems, including sizing and cost estimations.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports and documentation to support project activities.
• Develop technical specifications and manage the tendering process, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
• Monitor project progress, providing regular updates and reports to stakeholders.
• Oversee technical coordination and supervision of contractors throughout project execution.
• Manage project budgets and timelines, ensuring adherence to cost and schedule constraints until final commissioning.
• Assist operational teams in troubleshooting existing systems and implementing process improvements.
• Contribute to the enhancement of internal procedures, technical standards, and the standardization of solutions across projects.

Requirements

• A Master's Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Project management certification (PMP/PMI) is a plus.
• Proven experience in designing, constructing, and testing industrial cooling systems, including equipment selection.
• Initial experience with HVAC installations and their hydraulic components is desirable.
• Demonstrated ability in contract management and project management.
• Strong technical competencies in cooling water systems and HVAC plant design and analysis.

• Familiarity with water cooling processes and HVAC systems.
• Experience in managing diverse project teams and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of sustainable engineering practices and energy-efficient systems.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in design software and tools relevant to mechanical engineering and HVAC systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English; willingness to learn French is essential.

Practical notes

• This position requires working in radiation areas and may involve interventions in underground installations.
• A valid driving license is necessary, and the role may require work during nights, weekends, and holidays based on organizational needs.
• Candidates must be prepared for shift work and on-call duties as required.
• Due to occupational health risks, successful candidates must obtain medical clearance prior to contract confirmation.
• The job involves exposure to potential hazards, including working at heights and in environments with electromagnetic fields.

CERN offers a competitive salary that is tax-free and increases with relevant experience. Employees enjoy 30 days of paid leave annually, along with an additional two weeks of closure. Comprehensive health insurance is provided for employees and their families, alongside membership in the CERN Pension Fund. Depending on individual circumstances, relocation assistance, including installation grants and travel expenses, is available. The initial contract is for a limited duration of four years, with the possibility of extension up to eight years and eligibility for an indefinite position thereafter.
