About the role
Censys is seeking an experienced AI/LLM Engineer to enhance our internet intelligence platform. You will develop and deploy AI-driven features that improve user experience and automate complex workflows. This role involves transforming internet-scale data into actionable insights for security professionals.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Create and launch AI-powered functionalities to refine search, enhance recommendations, and automate processes within the Censys Platform.
- Utilize machine learning techniques to simplify user workflows, personalize interactions, and highlight crucial intelligence.
- Develop and fine-tune large language models and RAG pipelines to analyze internet-scale data, summarize findings, and provide context-specific insights.
- Construct, scale, and maintain AI-driven analytics and automation systems to enable users to make quicker, data-informed decisions.
- Work with frontend, product, and data engineering teams to integrate AI capabilities that are intuitive, secure, and user-friendly.
- Continuously assess and improve model performance using RAGAS, LangSmith, and automated regression testing.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, with at least 2 years focused on building and scaling AI-driven user-facing features.
- Strong command of Python for backend and API service development.
- Familiarity with RAG evaluation frameworks like RAGAS and LangSmith, and experience designing regression tests for LLM pipelines.
- Ability to rapidly prototype, validate, and refine AI features in a dynamic, experiment-focused environment.
- Prior experience in prompt engineering to boost LLM accuracy, reasoning, and consistency.
- Understanding of secure and responsible AI practices, including the implementation of guardrails and safety measures.
- Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment best practices for AI applications.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across teams to ensure AI capabilities enhance the overall platform user experience.

- Experience using AI tools to improve coding efficiency, accelerate iteration, and boost product capabilities.
- Advanced knowledge of AI/ML architectures, model evaluation, and applied deep learning.
- Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector search, and LLM fine-tuning.
- Understanding of embedding models and AI-driven analytics.
- Demonstrated ability to optimize AI models for low-latency, real-time interactions in frontend environments.
- Experience deploying secure AI systems within the cybersecurity domain or other sensitive data environments.

Practical notes
- Salary range for high cost of living areas (San Francisco Bay, New York City, Seattle): $179,000 - $201,000 USD annually, plus bonus eligibility and equity.
- Salary range for all other locations: $148,000 - $192,000 USD annually, plus bonus eligibility and equity.

- This role is open to remote employees across the continental US and Canada.
