About the role
Cartesia seeks an Engineering Manager to lead its Data team, focusing on systems, datasets, and research essential for exceptional training data. This role is critical for advancing real-time multimodal AI by ensuring the quality of data that drives model performance. You will guide a team responsible for data infrastructure, pre-training datasets, and data-centric modeling.

What you'll do
- Lead and expand a high-performing team of data infrastructure engineers and researchers, balancing shared infrastructure and dedicated modeling efforts.
- Define the technical strategy for processing, storing, and delivering multimodal data at web scale for Cartesia.
- Oversee the creation of advanced multimodal pre-training datasets, including annotation models and curation methods that influence model learning.
- Implement a rigorous, empirical approach to data quality, training models to understand data value and applying these insights to dataset decisions.
- Collaborate closely with modeling and research teams to ensure data work directly enhances model quality.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers and researchers as the team grows from 6-8 to approximately 12 members.
Requirements
- Demonstrated management background, including direct leadership of a data team of at least six individuals.
- Practical knowledge of large-scale data infrastructure, covering processing, storage, and systems that enable data usability.
- Proven history of building and leading data initiatives, preferably within a modeling project context.
Nice to have
- Prior modeling experience.
- Experience developing data for a generative modeling organization.
- Familiarity with multimodal data, including audio and speech.
