About the role

Careem is developing the Everything App for the Middle East to simplify daily life across transportation, food, and payments. We are currently shifting our focus toward AI-driven systems to automate workflows and enhance user interactions. This role involves leading technical initiatives to build intelligent, scalable recommendation engines that function across our various service verticals.

What you'll do

• Develop hyper-personalization systems for Food, Quik, and Shops that transfer user intent signals across different products.
• Lead the implementation of graph-based retrieval methods and knowledge graph pipelines for large-scale ranking.
• Design transformer-based architectures to transition our stack from classical machine learning to deep, attention-based models.
• Create streaming and online learning systems that adjust to user behavior in real time rather than relying on daily batch updates.
• Integrate generative AI and RAG applications into the existing personalization infrastructure.
• Consolidate personalization signals across verticals to eliminate redundant work and improve model performance.
• Conduct A/B testing and exploratory data analysis to drive product strategy and optimize key business metrics.
• Provide technical leadership by mentoring team members and influencing product roadmaps through data-backed insights.

Requirements

• 6-8 years of experience in machine learning, predictive modeling, data mining, and Big Data methodologies.
• 2-4 years of specific industry experience in search, recommendation, or personalization at a product-focused company.
• Advanced degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or Engineering.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, Spark, and Hive.
• Experience with deep learning, specifically attention mechanisms and transformer-based architectures.
• Background in database technologies such as BigQuery, Hadoop, Amazon EMR, MySQL, or similar systems.
• Expertise in A/B testing methodology and end-to-end recommendation system design.

Nice to have

• Experience with graph neural networks or graph-based retrieval systems.
• Knowledge of online or streaming learning models.
• Skills in geospatial data processing.
• Experience with BI and visualization tools like Tableau, MicroStrategy, or Qlik.
