About the role
Carbon is seeking a Quality Engineer to manage manufacturing quality standards at our Sunnyvale facility. You will work directly on the production floor to oversee build quality, troubleshoot technical issues, and analyze production data to identify trends.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead root cause investigations for manufacturing nonconformances and customer complaints through to resolution.
- Contain quality issues using 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone methodologies while verifying the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Create quality control plans and testing procedures for electrical, mechanical, and optical subassemblies.
- Manage supplier quality tasks, including First Article Inspections, SCARs, and DFMEA.
- Partner with engineering and technician teams to maintain build schedules and troubleshoot production floor issues.
- Apply Lean, Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma principles to reduce rework, downtime, and yield loss.
- Implement in-process inspections and SPC monitoring.
- Collaborate with engineering during NPI phases to define quality and manufacturability requirements.
- Lead cross-functional teams through quality containment and reconciliation planning.
- Report quality risks, trends, and process updates to operations and leadership.
Requirements
- BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality system standards.
- Proficiency in GD&T, SPC, and FMEA.
- Experience with mechanical, electrical, and optical metrology tools.
- Technical skills in Quickbase, JIRA, Tableau, Oracle, and JMP.

Practical notes
- Salary range: $103,520 to $155,280 per year, with a target hiring midpoint of $129,400.
