About the role
Join the Continuous Improvement team to design, build, and maintain advanced additive manufacturing solutions. This position focuses on optical systems and ensuring their continuous production. You will contribute to new product introductions, feature development, and adapting products for long-term manufacturing.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Collaborate with engineering teams (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems) to conceptualize and maintain opto-mechanical designs, including lab-based building and testing.
- Partner with Operations (Sourcing, Planning, Quality, Manufacturing, Production, Field Service) to support released products, ensure ongoing production, and resolve assembly or field issues, potentially engaging directly with vendors.
- Conduct engineering analysis on parts and assemblies, covering optics mounting, tolerance, thermal properties, stress, fatigue, lifespan, manufacturability, failure modes, and cost.
- Work with cross-functional teams to define system requirements, implement designs, and troubleshoot problems.
- Create and update documentation like drawings and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for company-wide knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
- At least 3 years of experience with opto-mechanical designs and sub-systems.
- Strong mechanical engineering background with proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Solidworks) and understanding of dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Experience in developing specifications for optical, opto-mechanical, or optoelectronic assemblies.
- Knowledge of product quality metrics and methods such as GD&T, DFMEA, and Statistical Process Control (SPC).

Nice to have
- Expertise in scripting and UI development for automated alignment tools involving motion control, sensors, or machine vision.
- Proficiency in MATLAB, LabVIEW, or Python.
- Experience in a production environment and comfort working with technicians on the manufacturing floor and in the lab.
